| Department of Safety and Professional Services Adds Public Portal Lookup to LicensE; Enables Third Parties to Learn Status of Applicants LicensE is the department’s new online, self-guided license application platform. |
| Madison, Wis. – The Department of Safety and Professional Services is introducing a new LicensE Public Application Status Lookup tool. This tool will make it easier for employers to track the application status of current and future employees, and it will help advisors in academic institutions better support students and recent graduates during the license application process. The tool will allow applicants to grant access to their application status by providing employers, advisors, or others with their application number. With that number, employers, advisors or others can see which materials have been submitted and whether the department is waiting on certain documents from the applicant, testing centers, former employers, or others. This information and other application details will help employers better anticipate employee availability, and it will help advisors determine where students may need extra support. “We have heard from higher education professionals and employers that they want to know where applicants are in the licensing process,” Secretary-designee Dan Hereth said. “We believe this tool will do just that and create better communication between applicants and third parties, so that they can, in turn, help their students, graduates, or recent hires navigate the license application process. We appreciate the partnership and collaboration with higher education institutions and employers to get student applicants into the workforce.” LicensE is an online, self-guided occupational license application platform. DSPS began transitioning most health professions to LicensE in May 2022. The new platform revealed how involved employers and advisors often were in the application process. With input from them and others who support applications, DSPS developed this new tool. The LicensE rollout will continue into 2023. Once fully implemented, all applicants for all professions will use LicensE for initial applications and renewals. To access the Status Lookup Tool, individuals will need an applicant’s 10-digit PAR number. An applicant may provide the number to anyone who could support their applications. The PAR number will look like this: PAR-1234567890. “We continue to build out this platform to offer a modern occupational license application and renewal experience to more of our customers,” Hereth said. “Eventually all of our applicants and credential holders will benefit from the modern, cloud-based LicensE platform.” The Application Status Lookup tool can be found here: https://license.wi.gov/s/application-status-lookup About DSPS: The Department of Safety and Professional Services issues more than 240 unique licenses, administers dozens of boards and councils that regulate professions, enforces state building codes, runs the state fire prevention program, and maintains the award-winning Wisconsin Enhanced Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, which is a key tool in the multi-faceted public health campaign to stem excessive opioid prescribing.
