WI Senate Bill 98

The Senate unanimously passed Wisconsin Senate Bill 98, which makes a small but much-needed update to state statutes to allow greater flexibility for healthcare co-ops in Wisconsin.

Healthcare is changing rapidly and prices are increasing unsustainably, but 175,000 Wisconsinites that get coverage through a healthcare co-op have found them to be a good partner in navigating what is too often a confusing, opaque and expensive market.

However, state law is boxing these organizations in, preventing them from adapting to changing times and threatening their long-term viability.

This bill changes state law to allow these organizations to convert to a more flexible nonprofit business model so they are better able to compete and thrive. This change will help ensure a competitive marketplace and it comes at no cost to taxpayers.
