Matthew Keenan

April 3, 1959 – January 14, 2025

Matthew “Matt” Keenan, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born on April 3, 1959, to Patrick and Betty (Walleser) Keenan. He married Ann Kingslien on June 7, 1980, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua, Wis.

Matt enjoyed attending his children’s wrestling matches, football games, plays, and musicals. He helped out at the Vernon County Fair pig show. He enjoyed Sunday drives with his family and was very proud of his five grandchildren. Matt was an auctioneer and continued to do benefit auctions until even recently. Matt milked Jersey cows for 42 years and took great pride in being a farmer. He always enjoyed helping others and even at the very end was an organ donor.

Matt is survived by his three children: Lucas (Angela) of Hager City, Wis., Alissa of Madison, Wis., and Lance of Highbridge, Wis.; five grandchildren: Cole, Ali, and Jake of Hager City, Wis., Annie and Charlee of Highbridge, Wis.; mother, Betty (Keenan) Schedivy; 10 brothers and sisters: Julia (Tom) Linski, Carla (Dennis) Lawrence, Patrick (Reta) Keenan, Mary (David) Johnson, Chris (Joan) Keenan, Dawn Keenan, Wayne (Shelley) Keenan, Vince (Amy) Keenan, Greg (Sharronda) Keenan, Carrie Keenan; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Keenan; father, Patrick Keenan; and many other loving family and friends.

Family would like to give a special thank you to the nursing staff at the ICU at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for their compassion and care.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua. A wake was held Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the church from 3 to 6 p.m. and again on Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial took place in the Viroqua Cemetery.
