The unique ability of the FFA organization to prepare young people for success in an endless array of career paths is an undisputed fact. Blue jacket-wearers emerge from their respective schools well-spoken, well-mannered and ready to positively contribute to their workplaces and communities.

In Oklahoma, FFA organizers, advisors and industry partners are coming together the open up access to a new industry — auctioneering.

“We are excited to announce the inaugural Oklahoma FFA Auctioneering CDE Contest in partnership with the Oklahoma State Auctioneers Association and the National Auction Association,” said event coordinator Justin Kennedy. “This event promises to be an incredible opportunity for FFA members to showcase their auctioneering skills and learn from the best in the business.”

Essentially the inaugural auctioneering competition is as simple as it sounds. Students will bring two items no less than $25 in value with them to the contest and sell those items before a live audience. Viewers will pay a $5 entry fee to watch the contest and register to bid on the items sold by the students.

The state qualifying contest event, scheduled to be held February 8 in Oklahoma City in conjunction with the Oklahoma State Auctioneers Association convention, allows students to practice their skills with a real audience while also making career connections.

“Students and accompanying adults are welcome to stay for complimentary NextGen Student Workshops during the OSAA Convention,” Kennedy said. “In addition, students are also welcome to join the OSAA to watch and learn from the Pro Bid Calling, Rookie and Ringman Contests on Friday and Saturday.”

The top 10 individuals competing on February 8 will qualify to compete at the State Finals held on May 7 on the talent stage in the Career Show at the Oklahoma State FFA Convention. The winning individual will win a scholarship to attend the National Auction Association convention to compete in the Junior Auctioneers Championship.

“We encourage all FFA members interested in auctioneering to participate in this exciting event,” Kennedy said. “We wanted this event to be a way for students to gain real experience in an auction environment and to experience what a career as an auctioneer might be like. Please don’t miss this opportunity to learn, compete and grow in the world of auctioneering.”

Registration for the event is due by January 15 at https://form.jotform.com/232897307514159. For more information, contact Justin Kennedy at oklahomaauctionschool@gmail.com or by phone at 918-470-9350.
