Antigo, Auctioneer wins State Auctioneer Championship

Milwaukee, WI. On Aug. 7th Kathy Packard (WAA) Wisconsin Auctioneer Association auction professional recently took part in the 2018 Wisconsin Auctioneers State Bid calling Championship, competing against some of the best auctioneers in the state.

Packard finishes as reigning champion for the 2018 Wisconsin State Auctioneer bid calling contest. A big win for her and quite an accomplishment.  She will go on to the International Auctioneers championship in New Orleans, July of 2019, where she will compete against auctioneers from all over the world for the title of IAC Champion.

WAA auctioneer competitors are judged on their presentation, chant, voice timbre, body language, and other performance elements of effective auctioneering. Final participants are also judged on their answers of interview questions. The revered competition was held in a two day event in January at the Wisconsin Auctioneer Association convention and the finalists then head to the Wisconsin State Fair in August. This is a live auction in the Case IH Colosseum, in front of approximately 200+ live attendees, with it steaming live on FaceBook to Thousands.

“There’s no competition in the auction industry like (WAA) Wisconsin Auctioneer Association State bid calling championship.  I learned so much from competing with my professional peers, and I can’t wait to bring that experience back for my clients.  This will help me provide an even more enhanced auction experience for buyers and sellers in this great state” Packard said.

History of the Contest

The forerunner to this contest was the “State Fair Bid-Calling Contest,” started in 1991 by the “singing auctioneer” Le Roy Van Dyke and the late Roy D. Holler, a past president of the Wisconsin Auctioneers Association. During the first nine years, contestants were judged only on their bid calling.

*In 1999, the contest was changed to the “Wisconsin State Auctioneer Champion” contest, and added the interview portion.
